The gym’s boring ellipticals, sweaty dumbbells and smelly locker room make you want to run for the hills. But hitting the jogging trails on your own can be a lonely uphill battle. Don’t get bent out of shape so fast. Introducing Fitcamp, Oahu’s newest outdoor group workout. Creator and instructor Levon Basso leads the small classes of six to 10 people in parks around O‘ahu, and uses only the challenges of the terrain (think: hills, trees, sand, park benches) and your own body weight to create super-effective exercises—no dumbbells required. But this is no walk in the park: the hour-long session begins with five to 10 minutes of low-impact warm-ups, followed by 45 minutes of rapid-fire, back-to-back exercises—with virtually no breaks—in order to maximize calorie-burning. |
