You’ve been swimming and paddling and surfing in the same old suit you bought off the sale rack more than a year ago. It’s definitely time to upgrade.

A new collection of Hula-la suits arrives in stores this month with new colors, prints and cuts. The Hawaii-designed swimwear is cut to accommodate active beach activities – but is cute enough to simply lounge by the pool too. Buy tops and bottoms separately and mix and match prints, solids, and styles – go ahead, put the string bikini top with the boyshorts bottoms. Or the push-up halter with the one-step-up-from-a-thong “teeny” bottom.  Flaunting your best assets while minimizing or concealing your, um, over-endowed spots is what Hula-la is all about.

This season, the line’s third, Kailua designer Erika Ireland offers Asian-inspired looks, with an East-meets-West theme. A rich turquoise-and-black design combines a Japanese wave print with an embroidered water symbol. Clean black or red suits feature embroidered Asian love characters that have a sleek and crisp tattoo-y feel. 

Known for flirty, feminine designs with gingham, bows and florals, Hula-la’s new collection also has lots of new takes on these old favorites – and the popular minimal coverage, itsy-bitsy “teeny” bottom is available in every color and pattern.

Except yellow polka dot.
