Inside, it’s just like that epic barrel you always imagined yourself riding: bright, glassy blue hues, clean lines and foamy white accents. You’ll find plenty of goodies from lines you already know and love, like dainty, ocean inspired jewelry from Ki’ele, and flowy dresses and cover-ups from Indah. Plus, the store is chock full of bikini styles that are anything but blown out. From the fiercely feminine styles of Kailua-based Hula-la swimwear to the island chic Pualani bikini line, there’s something for every backside. First Break even stocks a bright art-deco Pualani print that’s exclusive to their store. And the store’s name doesn’t just pay homage to the famous Waikiki break directly across the street, it also represents First Break’s initiative to give up-and-coming artists and designers their first break. The store is home to photography from Richard Keith and shell jewelry from Kapono Guerrero, both local surf instructors. Between bikini sets, you can even sign up for surf lessons from The Beach Boys, rent yourself a board, or book an outrigger canoe ride. Proving that shopping in Waikiki doesn’t have to be a total wash. First Break Waikiki, 120 Kaiulani Ave., Honolulu, 808.922.1820. |
